In this course you will develop the skills to support a dentist, dental therapist or dental hygienist during healthcare procedures, assist with practice administration and maintain high standards of infection control.

You will learn:

  • Cleaning and sterilising instruments and equipment
  • Processing and storage of radiographic film
  • Safe disposal of surgery waste
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of treatment rooms.

Also learn helpful administrative skills such as managing appointments, processing payments and maintaining accurate client records.

This nationally recognised course is delivered through a combination of online learning and a work placement. Theory, knowledge and initial skills are developed via Open Colleges online campus, OpenSpace, which is where you can access your course material and complete your assessments.

The practical skills you require in dental care are then gained through a work placement which you will do in a dental centre or other appropriate workplace. Open Colleges can provide you with additional information on how to find a suitable work placement.
